Scholarship Support Programme

Full secondary school funding for high-achieving students whose families cannot afford the fees.

In Kenya, secondary school is not free. For families in rural areas — where income is irregular, harvests are uncertain, and emergencies are constant — the cost of school fees, books, and boarding can be the difference between a child completing their education and dropping out entirely.

Bright, determined students lose their futures not because of a lack of ability, but because of a lack of money. Rose Seko Foundation believes that is something we can and must change.

What We Do

The Scholarship Support Programme identifies high-achieving students from low-income rural households who have passed their primary school examinations but whose families cannot afford secondary school. For each student we support, we cover the full cost of:

  • Secondary school tuition fees
  • School books and learning materials
  • Boarding costs where the student must live away from home
  • Examination fees for KCSE

We do not offer partial support. We cover the full cost, because a half-scholarship that a family still cannot afford is no scholarship at all.

How Students Are Selected

We work with primary school headteachers and community leaders to identify candidates. Selection is based on academic performance, household financial need, and a personal interview. We prioritise girls, who face disproportionately higher dropout rates in rural Kenya, and first-generation learners — students whose parents did not complete secondary school themselves.

Our Impact So Far

Since the programme began in 2019, over 200 students have completed secondary school under our scholarship. Of those, more than 60% have gone on to further education or formal employment. Several of our earliest scholars are now teachers, nurses, and community workers in the same areas they grew up in.

That is the multiplier effect we are working towards — young people who return to their communities with skills, qualifications, and a commitment to giving back.

Currently Supporting

The programme is active and currently supporting students across our three target counties. We accept new cohorts of scholars each year ahead of the Form 1 intake in January.

How You Can Help

One scholarship covers approximately KES 60,000–80,000 per year depending on the school. Your donation — however large or small — contributes directly to keeping a student in school. No administration fees, no overhead deductions. Every shilling goes to a student.
